As a child I delighted picking red clover flowers nestled amidst over-grown fence rows. Little did I know this flower would become one of my favorite herbs for feminine health. Red clover is brimming full of calcium, magnesium, potassium, thiamine and vitamin C which are vital minerals in stabilizing hormones and reproductive health. This plant also has a chemical known as isoflavone that yields plenty of estrogenic benefits helpful for relieving cramps, breast tenderness and other PMS related symptoms. Red clover alleviates, or can significantly reduce, menopausal discomforts such as hot flashes, palpitation and restless sleep. According to Danish researchers simply taking a supplement of red clover extract daily can relieve feminine discomfort without any side effects.
I have found red clover to be high in natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that are good for over-all general health. My daughter and I have both experienced the health benefits of this wonderful herb by drinking a cup of Red Clover Tea everyday. Here is my simple recipe:
RED CLOVER TEA
6 fresh flower tops (or 3 tsp dried crushed flowers)
1 cup hot water
Steep 10 to 15 minutes
Drink 1 cup in the morning and another cup in the evening.
Red clover should not be taken by pregnant or nursing women.
Just a reminder, not everyone has the same body chemistry. Please be mindful of any unwanted reactions such as swelling, itching or hives. If you have severe allergies you may what to consult a health practitioner before use.
In closing, Red Clover Tea is a wonderful drink for maintaining health and balance.
Be well my friends,
