With pail and shears in hand, I hurry to the woodlands to cut wild phlox before the sun fades behind Stone Mountain. These striking flowers grace the wetlands in mass colors of pink, purple and white. The excursion of gathering takes me away from the desk into a world of natural beauty. I have always found gathering flowers to be a privilege. Clipping the fresh blooms invigorates my spirit as their scent wafts through the air upwards into the forest canopy. Here is some advice for gathering in woodland areas...
A FEW GATHERING TIPS
Wear waterproof footwear when gathering in wetlands or damp areas.
Take garden scissors and a bucket with 2 inches water.
To prevent wilting, immediately submerge flowers in water after clipping.
As you can see gathering is a very effortless activity that benefits the body and the mind. As I walked briskly back to the house, I felt energized and excited to make the arrangement that I will be sharing with you tomorrow.
