Stress can wreak havoc on our sense of well-being. Lemon Balm is my favorite herb for relief from anxieties and restlessness. This herb contains chemical sedatives that calm the nervous system when taken. It is a member of the mint family and can easily be identified by its square stem and scented leaves. Since the seeds scatter profusely in the wind, if you plant lemon balm in your garden most likely you'll have tons of it.
For centuries people have regarded balm tea as beneficial for reducing stress, promoting relaxation and boosting brain function. In one study researchers found that lemon balm improved the memory and attention span of Alzheimer patients. It has also been utilized in aromatherapy for Alzheimer's disease and Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder. Lemon Balm is a great alternative to stress medications that may cause unwanted side effects or addictive reactions. Here is my remedy for Stress Relief in a Jar.
