The scent of citrus is both energizing and mood elevating.  Throughout the winter, I saved the peelings of lemons, oranges, limes, and grapefruits to make this tantalizing Citrus Potpourri.  To dry the fruit peels, I placed them in an open basket near the kitchen stove. Every week I added more to the batch, turning them often so they wouldn't mold, until the basket overflowed.  When summer arrives I always have plenty of dried peelings to add to floral potpourri.  I also grind the peelings into a fine powder for salves, ointments, and teas.

Here is my easy Citrus Potpourri Recipe but feel free to change it any way you like. It will have a pleasant fragrance with any combination you choose.

4 oz. Orange Peel

4 oz. Lemon Peel

4 oz. Grapefruit Peel

4 oz. yellow yarrow or marigold flowers (dried)

4 oz. Lemon Verbena Leaves

1 oz. Orris Root (I dry Iris root and chop in fine slivers)

20 drops of Lemon Oil

Refresh with oil when fragrance begins to fade. This blend of potpourri will last 1 to 5 years.  If you have plenty, share your signature potpourri with friends.
