THE DRYING LOFT

The garden gathering is completed for another year. Grasses and grains hang from the rafter. Flowers, hops, and pods fill wicker trays and woven baskets. Fluffy hydrangeas stand in airy crates. The Drying Loft is overflowing with material waiting for winter afternoons of crafting when the snow is drifting outside.

In nature, we see the cycle of seedtime and harvest and the importance of rest. Winter encourages us to refocus our priorities and energy. In just a few weeks, the seed catalogs will arrive in the mail and garden plans will start again.

"Come, ye thankful people come, Raise the song of harvest home;
All is safely gathered in ere the winter storms begin."

HENRY ALFORD

Let winter begin,

Sally
