ORGANIC ROOM SCENTS

Nature provides beautiful scents for the home that are chemically-free and available to everyone willing to forage for them.  Hedge apples are one of my favorite room fresheners.  Also known as osage orange or monkey brains, hedge apples grow on trees, and are found in swamps and wetlands. They mature in late November just in time for the holidays. Their light citrusy fragrance, knobby texture, and lime green color is pleasing to the eye and nose.  Here are some ideas for using hedge apples around the home.

AIR FRESHNERS | HEDGE APPLES

Fill a basket with aromatic hedge apples for the hearth or table centerpiece.

Impale hedge apples onto pointed dial rods. Insert into outdoor urn arrangements of mixed pine.

Substitute fresh fruit in Williamsburg Style Arrangements with lime-colored hedge apples.

Placed hedge apples in the attic or basement as a deterrent for spiders, (Last about 4 months).
