At this time of year when the flowers have faded and the snow has encrusted the earth, gardeners need not despair. Nature has much to offer for sprucing up that old dilapidated urn, and turning it into the star of Christmas. Pictured here is a summer urn that has been transformed into winter adornment for the patio, front porch, or foyer entry. Twigs, white pine, boxwood and ivy greens embellish a copper plated vessel with bright green hedge apples to complete the colonial look. Its rustic beauty adds classic lines to properties big and small.
Another way to add more life to this urn: place a modest sized bird feeder in it. I put a small thistle sock in this one (pictured), then placed it on the back patio in front of my kitchen window to invite feathered friends all winter long.
