On my walk today, I couldn't resist gathering these gorgeous red sumac berries growing next to a grove of goldenrod. Sumac, cut at the appropriate time, has a vibrant red color. These bright red berries tend to fade after clipping; however, the deeper shade of burgundy adds a rich undertone to various dried flowers in wreaths and autumn arrangements.

Gathering and foraging is a continual exercise in experimentation.  Information and expert advise cannot compare to first-hand experience.
Let this inspire you to take a walk, and discover something new today.
