CURLY DOCK

Curly Dock is one of my favorite natural materials for drying and designing. I find it growing along field lanes, roadways, and wastelands.  If picked before turning completely dark brown, the little seeds will remain intact (meaning they will not crumble or drop when dried). I like to harvest stems in every color stage as it matures from bright green, to pink, to rust, and deep brown.

Taking a walk each week with the purpose of gathering can yield a storeroom of supplies for designing home decor arrangements. Gathering can also awaken you to the most beautiful places near your home...like this field lane in summer foliage (above).

Happy gathering,

Sally
