LEAVES OF COLOR

October's weather is most unpredictable. It can be sunny, rainy, and snowy at the same time. We had a few of those cold blustery days this week along with some gorgeous powder-blue skies as shown in the photos above. On one of those chilly days, I saw an amazing horizontal prism of beautiful colors falling in a cloudburst of raindrops. On two other occasions I happened to catch a full-arching rainbow preceding afternoon showers. Rainbows are a symbol of promise you know.

In the rush of schedules and responsibilities, it is easy to go along life's pathway with blinders on and miss the world of beauty around us. At any given moment in nature, especially when the leaves are turning colors daily, there are joyful surprises waiting around every bend in the road. We must train ourselves to see these little gifts of joy. Perhaps Henry Ward Beecher said it best:

"The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things."

This weekend go outside, breathe the fresh air, and revel in nature's ever-changing landscape...It is a calming stress reliever.

May we train ourselves to see little gifts of joy in every day.
